Why we celebrate July 4th

Because of Maddox I know that in time he will want to know why we exactly celebrate July 4th.  Sure I remember things we are taught in school but I want to know the whole reason and pass that on to him.  We do live in a great country even if certain members of the government are making wrong decisions.

So after researching it here is what I found.....

During the American Revolution, the legal separation of the 13 Colonies from Great Britain occurred on July 2, 1776, when the Second Continental Congress voted to approve a resolution of independence that had been proposed in June by Richard Henry Lee of Virginia declaring the United States independent from Great Britain. After voting for independence, Congress turned its attention to the Declaration of Independence, a statement explaining this decision, which had been prepared by a Committee of Five, with Thomas Jefferson as its principal author. Congress debated and revised the wording of the Declaration, finally approving it on July 4

In Summary:  We celebrate July 4th, Independence Day because it is commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, declaring independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain.

We celebrate this day by fireworks, cookouts, basically being with friends and family!
